He returned to the V-League in three years. Jimin Kyung recently passed the entrance examination and wore a Hyundai E&C uniform.
"When I passed the test, I thought of my family a lot and I thought of the people who helped me," Jimin-kyung said at a recent press conference held at Hyundai Construction Gymnasium in Giheung-gu, Yongin. "I have the biggest heart to start anew."
Jimin Kyung, a former high school student, was nominated by KGC Ginseng Corporation (currently Jeong Kwan-jang) as the second overall pick in the first round at the 2016 KOVO Rookie Draft. Showing her potential for growth in her first year, she won the Rookie of the Year award unanimously.
However, the situation did not turn out as expected. It was caused by a left knee injury. Ahead of the 2021-2022 season, he sought to make a comeback by changing his uniform after receiving a special nomination from Pepper Savings Bank, a new team at the time. However, he was put on the operating table and his playing time decreased further. After undergoing another surgery ahead of the 2022-2023 season, he failed to play a game and was released.
He was away from the court, but he always had a longing for the V-League. "I was in the team, but I didn't give up for now," he said. "Thanks to Lim Do-hun's help, I was continuing ball workouts and weights while rehabilitating."
Ji Eun-woo (KB Insurance), a four-year-old younger brother who played volleyball together, was also motivated. Having joined KB as a trainee last season, she signed an official contract. "My younger brother was chosen in the rookie draft, which gave me motivation," Jimin-kyung said. "I went from a trainee to an official one. I saw him overcome even though it was hard. That made me want to come back."
Fortunately, his left knee, which had been bothering him all the time, has also improved a lot. "I'm adapting, but my muscle strength has not changed much. My cartilage has also improved a lot," he said. "I think maintaining muscles is the most important thing to endure a long season well."
